Either you call it employment or industrial relation, this course introduces students to the overall relationship that exist between capitalist employers, wage earning workforce and government’s regulatory institutions as well as buttressing scope and factors influencing Industrial Practices.
Emphasis is made on the details of the actors of employment relation as well as the duties and obligations of employers and employees in the workplace. Concepts such as collective bargaining, arbitration, conciliation, wage determination, Industrial Actions, trade unionism, strikes, lock out, work to rule among others is also part of this module.
Mechanism for dispute resolution is also discussed in sequence. There is an extensive illustration on issues such as Labour Disputes management & Procedures for conflict management in the workplace.
