Advancement in information communication technology (ICT) has had tremendous impact on the conduct of business, human interaction and the way things are done in modern times. Indeed, it has changed the way people communicate. Thus Presentation Skills is a critical part of Communication intelligence system. The drive currently therefore is to communicate more effectively, lucidly and convincingly with a lasting impression. Whether for business or academic purposes, the need to acquire skills for persuasion, presentation and defence of ideas is imperative in order to attract the interest of the audience as well as convince them of the presenter’s viewpoint or concept.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
The fundamental objective of presentation skills is to drive home (sell) a point convincingly in an interactive manner devoid of ambiguity and boredom. Thus the ultimate objective of the subject is to equip students with skills that will enable them make cutting edge presentations with professionalism as well as demonstrate ownership of the knowledge they have acquired before a target audience, panel, group or committee.
EXAMINATION AND GRADING
The paper shall be for duration of three hours. It is structured into two sections (Sections A and B). Section A shall be made up of 20 multiple choice questions, attracting 20% of the total scores. On the other hand, Section B shall be made up of 6 essay type questions from which candidates are expected to select any 4 questions. Each question in this section attracts 20% for a total of 80%. Essay questions, covering the entire syllabus, should incorporate case studies, simulations and scenarios.
Considering the practical nature of the subject and its applicability in the industry, professions and academic, a compulsory case study shall be featured in the examination.
Section A: Multiple Choice Questions ……. 20 Questions for 20%
Section B: Essay Type Questions: Set 6 questions; Candidates are to attempt 4 questions, one of which is a compulsory case study, for 80% (20% per question).
Timing: 3 hours (Breakdown of timing: 36 minutes for each question in Section B, and 1 minute 8 seconds for each question in Section A)
